About The Music Factory

Commenced in 1967, the Music Factory catalogue was developed by music industry veteran, Hoghton Hughes, in Australia and New Zealand.

As one of the largest and most diverse music catalogues in the world, approximately 30,000 tracks, encompassing virtually all music genres, are included. The Music Factory catalogue is included in most major downloading sites including iTunes, Amazon, etc.
Obviously there is constant demand for sync rights & tracks from the catalogue have been used in numerous major movies (Edward Scissorhands, Blow, etc.) & television programmes (The Honeymooners, MASH, etc.).

The Music Factory catalogue is ideal for mass marketing, premiums, etc.

Hoghton Hughes

Hoghton Hughes is truly the definition of a music industry veteran, with some 50 years’ experience.

Encompassing virtually all aspects of the recording industry - including retail, wholesale, racking, management, distribution, direct mail, TV advertising, consultancy, music publishing and, most importantly, production - he has produced in excess of 40 ‘Gold’ and ‘Platinum’ albums in New Zealand alone. Albums produced by Hughes encapsulate the entire musical spectrum from rock, country, MOR, jazz, classical, Christian, kiddies, exercise, relaxation, world music and brass & pipe bands, including Australasia’s tribute album for the Royal Wedding between Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, which received official recognition from Buckingham Palace.

Hughes established his Music World company in NZ in 1967 on a capital of (NZ)$2,000 and expanded into Australia in 1979. The combined annual turnover of both territories reached $15 million and specialised in the “mass marketing” of music and video.

Today, Music World Ltd is New Zealand’s leading independent record company. It is also one of the world’s very oldest independent record companies.

Albums produced by Hughes and Music World have been internationally marketed in countries including USA, Canada, UK, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Eire, South Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc.

The giant US/Canadian company, Madacy Entertainment, was virtually founded on albums licensed from Hughes’ Music World operation!

Until recently, a resident of Brisbane, Australia’s third largest city and gateway to the Pacific and Asia, Hughes has received Honorary Degrees in Marketing from both the Australian and New Zealand Marketing Institutes. Hoghton and wife Vanessa now reside in Lennox Head, a small seaside village in Australia’s spectacular Northern Rivers region.

Hughes is also an accomplished musician playing both trumpet and cornet. He has recorded two best-selling trumpet albums which have been released internationally.
